High Grade Graphite Petroleum Coke

Graphite Petroleum Coke is a high-quality carbon material that can be used in a variety of applications. It is a key raw material for the production of graphite electrodes for steelmaking, which are required in a wide range of industrial processes. In addition, it is an important feedstock for the production of lithium ion batteries, which are becoming increasingly prevalent in vehicles. It is also useful as a heat-resistant coating for refractory materials, and it can be used to make pencil leads, carbon brushes, and electrodes in the light industry. It is also used as a carbon raiser in the manufacture of advanced refractory materials and castings, stabilizers for pyrotechnic materials, and high-temperature crucibles in the metallurgical industry.

The raw material for the production of Graphite Pet Coke is obtained from the thermal cracking of crude oil in a catalytic cracker unit. The resulting oil coke is washed and pretreated with nitric acid, in order to remove impurities. The washed and pretreated oil coke is then sent to the calcining furnace, where it is heated at high temperatures, in order to convert it into a more valuable product known as calcined petroleum coke (CPC).

Once calcined, the coke can undergo a further processing, in order to produce GPC. This is known as graphitization, and involves heating the coke in a graphitization furnace at high temperatures, in an oxygen-free atmosphere. This allows the carbon-carbon bonds to be rearranged, in order to form a more ordered graphite crystal structure. This significantly improves the performance of the resulting product, particularly in terms of its electrical conductivity and thermal stability.

The Graphite Petroleum Coke produced from the above mentioned process is characterized by its extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion and its good electrical conductivity. In addition, it is highly stable under elevated temperatures. The crystalline graphite content of the product is also very high, which makes it suitable for the production of electrodes for use in electric furnaces and other types of metal melting equipment. In a similar manner, it can be used as a moderator in nuclear reactors. The crystalline nature of the product also makes it very attractive as a raw material for producing graphite-based catalysts, which can be used in hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions (HER and OER). The above mentioned characteristics make GPC an important component for a wide variety of applications in many different industries.
